I love this picture and I hope you do too. The audacity of people just tickles me and I couldn't pass up this photo op with "Big Hairy Guy from Hawaii." He wasn't complicit in the photo; my sister, Laura, was my accomplice, but I like to think that his bravado in going shirtless was really an invitation for me to pose with him. I am thinking of creating a coffeetable book called People I Think Are Weird.

People are Funny
I love this picture and I hope you do too. The audacity of people just tickles me and I couldn't pass up this photo op with "Big Hairy Guy from Hawaii." He wasn't complicit in the photo; my sister, Laura, was my accomplice, but I like to think that his bravado in going shirtless was really an invitation for me to pose with him. i love this coffee table book idea, catchy title. i was a little confused about your posting though. you claim this man is shirtless when he is clearly not. also, i think you should've gotten his number just in case dad ever dies (God forbid.) i just think it's always better safe than sorry.
I like your book idea. And you and Laura are crazy. This makes me miss you both. That guy also makes me think of what a friend of mine will look like in about 20-30 years...oh, the wonder of male aging! :D

I happened to put “funny people” in Google and this site came up.
It's interesting that you call this man out for his audacity…yet you pose behind him and have another person snap a picture of him without his consent or knowledge then POST it in the WWW and then label him “Big Hairy Guy from Hawaii” and weird enough to make a book with him in it...
seems a bit mean spirited.
I have to ask; what’s the difference between someone wearing shorts and having bare legs or you being sleeveless and him going shirtless? Is it that perhaps the person wearing shorts may have shaved and he didn’t?
Consider that maybe he has tried shaving or waxing and suffered a bad reaction or allergies and dang-it-all he’s just really hot today (he’s in Hawaii after all).
Our culture allows for bare chests (hairy, young, old, muscular or not) just as it allows for bare arms or legs (shaved or not).
This is the kind of behavior that is condoned and our children see that makes them think it’s OK to make fun of people just because they are different than us.
I remember when you showed us this in english class. Everyone laughed so hard. Good times, good times.
